Road riders can leave directly from Nakoma to experience the Gold Lake Loop and its long and short options. Depending on your choice you'll get plenty of ascents and descents. The Sierra Valley offers up long views on flat country roads. Nakoma is located at about 5,200 feet. Depending on your route, you can climb up to 7,000 feet with most routes leveling out at 4,500 feet.

If riding uphill isn’t your thing, then pedaling through the flatlands of the spectacular Sierra Valley is just the ticket. Rides can link up 30- to 50-mile loops on the floor of the vast valley taking you through lush meadows, working farm and ranch lands and around the headwaters of the Feather River. One special aspect of riding in the Sierra Valley are the dozens of migratory bird species that nest in the area in the spring and early summer. Be on the lookout for Ibis, sandhill cranes, avocet, pelicans and more.

Get on your gravel bike at Nakoma and ride to Portola. From there you can take one of several mixed-surface routes into Red Clover Valley, where gravel and dirt roads will take you deep into the Lost Sierra. Make your way to the beautiful Genesee Valley or circle Lake Davis and go for a swim.

Riders looking to climb into the forested reaches of the Lost Sierra, a great adventure starts directly from Nakoma over to Mohawk Chapman Road. This paved road turns to gravel, then dirt and leads to Chapman Saddle, where the prime gravel of 09 Road will take you back to Gold Lake Highway and Nakoma.
